Torch for Gaming

With the London Olympics just beginning, we wondered, why isn’t gaming an Olympic event? Gaming has higher participation numbers than many sports, it’s accessible to more people, and it’s only getting bigger and better.

Bringing eSports to the Olympics is not a new idea, it’s been discussed before but we decided to do something about it. To get the ball rolling, Gamer Institute launched a dedicated petition to see how much support there was in the community. The answer exceeded our wildest expectations. At the time of writing, Torch for Gaming has in excess of 9000 signatures from over 130 countries around the world.

What’s more, media from around the world has recognised the movement. Forbes posed some tough questions to our CEO, Gamespot provided heated public debate, and the GamerNerdz hosted a panel discussion. There was even an outpouring of support from China.

All the success has been great but we can’t stop here! Let us all spread the word further and continue our efforts until gaming finally appears at the Olympics.

Make sure your voice is heard by signing the petition and following the movement on Twittter.
